Tucked on the hillside of downtown Angels Camp, the historical registered Cooper House is rich with
history. Built in 1910 by Dr. Cooper and two young men, Alvin and Harry Hogarth as his family home
and medical practice. The Doctor’s medical practice area of the home is now the bed & breakfast’s
Zinfandel Suite. Dr. Cooper was an immigrant sailor from England, who resided in San Francisco
until the 1906 fire. In the later part of 1906 he moved to Calaveras County, in 1910 he was appointed
Company Doctor for the Utica Mining Co. He and his wife hosted the local fireman in the front yard
with beer, soft drinks, meats, cheeses and crackers. Over the years this tradition has been continued
and evolved into the present Fireman’s Day Celebration.

The Stevenot Family purchased the home in the later part of the mid-century. In 1992 the home was gently turned it into a bed and breakfast.
From the moment you walk down the wood deck to the front entrance, you know the home is something special. Classic craftsman details
and simple beauty is the style of the Cooper House. Excellent service and modern comfort are the standard sense of care offered to each
guest. The Great Room with original wood wainscoting, Tudor styled ceiling and local stone fireplace is warm and inviting.
